Dear readers, few though you may be.
In only a few days we will be freed from the shelter and stress of school and launched into the lazy sun-kissed days of summer. For me the days will be intoxicated with the permanent donut grease perfume of the donut shop where I so diligently slave away, instead of enjoying perfect summer beach time. We are all rushing to finish last minute projects and boost grades before gradebooks clamp shut for the year. I have one last message to leave you before we say goodbye on another year.
First, thank you Aimee. Aimee Ferenz is the Billows’ Senior Editor and the first newspaper staff member I met when I was a timid freshman. We have worked side by side to produce this paper together for the past three years. We have pulled straws to see who would write the ‘desirable’ articles (the twice annual articles about the Fall and Spring Drama productions.) and who would reluctantly put together an article about our less desirable topics (I once wrote an article on powder-puff football without even knowing what an end zone was.) Lunches were dedicated to our small little billows pow wows, starring at draft boards and assigning articles. Now that she is graduating, I hope to fill her position with equal skill and grace and raise our paper back to its former glory. It will be an odd experience to spend my final and first year without her as my guide.
Thank you Mr. Tabano. It is very easy to treat a few high school writers as if we are insignificant and unimportant. You always treated us like professionals. Every idea was considered, and we were never ignored. I appreciate our inclusion on your level of professionalism.
It has been a frantic, busy, wordy, fantastic year. Next school year will be the Billows’ 100th anniversary, a milestone that I plan to honor with grandeur. But for now, goodbye friends.
