As February winds down, Ocean City High School’s winter sports teams are making waves in their respective postseason competitions. From basketball to wrestling, Raider Nation has plenty to cheer for as the playoffs heat up.
Boys Basketball Earns No. 1 Seed
The OC Boys Basketball Team finished the regular season with a 17-6 record, securing the top seed in the South Jersey Group 3 playoffs. The team will host Toms River East on Wednesday, with hopes of making a deep playoff run.
A special moment for the program came recently when Coach John Bruno secured his 500th career win, a milestone 36 years in the making. In the victory over St. Joe’s Academy, Luke Tjoumakaris (19 points) and Ben McGonigle (18 points) led the way, further proving they are a dominant force on the court.
Girls Basketball Ready for Playoff Battle
The Girls Basketball Team enters the postseason as the No. 10 seed and will face Mainland in the first round. With a 13-12 record and a young but determined squad, the team looks to make a statement. Before heading into the playoffs, the girls will travel to Haddon Heights for their final regular-season game on Saturday.
For seniors Madelyn Adamson and Naomi Nnewihe, the upcoming playoff games mark their final run in an Ocean City uniform, making this postseason even more special.
Wrestling Team Gears Up for Districts
After an impressive 16-6 regular season, the OCHS Wrestling Team is ready to dominate District 29. With three No. 1 seeds and four returning district champions, the team is focused on making a deep postseason run. Keep an eye on Clifford Dirkes, Tommy Grimmley, Jacob Chapman, and Jace Watson, who are all strong contenders for district titles.
The road to Atlantic City’s state championships begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Absegami High School, where the Raiders hope to make an early statement.
Lunchtime Competitions Heat Up
Beyond traditional sports, OCHS students have been competing in fun and friendly athletic contests during lunch periods. Travis Large took home the title for fastest throw, clocking in at 78 mph—and insiders say he wasn’t even trying!
The football accuracy competition was another highlight, with Evan Taylor winning the boys’ division, Maeve Quinn leading the girls, and Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Cathcart taking the staff victories. In the end, Cole Laursen delivered the “catch of the day” over Taylor in a thrilling finish.

With playoffs in full swing, Raider fans are encouraged to pack the stands and support their teams as they chase championship glory. Stay tuned for more updates as OCHS athletes continue their quest for victory!
