This week’s edition: The 37th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards Results
At the time of this writing, Oscar season has just left us, with the ceremony taking place on February 26th. As usual, there were laughs, tears, and other emotions. Movies such as La La Land and Moonlight walked away with several awards in their pockets, and other films shined bright as well. But enough about the best of times. Let’s talk about the worst of times: the 37th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards
A Brief History of the Razzies
The Golden Raspberry Awards (better known as “The Razzies”) is a mock award ceremony that celebrates the worst in film. These “ceremonies” usually take place the night before the Academy Awards, and give out mock awards to what are considered the worst movies of the year. The Razzie Awards were created in 1981 by John JB Wilson. After watching the 53rd Academy Awards, John invited several of his friends over, and decided to host a parody of the Oscars. Decked in a tacky rent-a-tux and speaking in front of a cardboard podium, John announced that Can’t Stop The Music was the winner of worst movie of the year. With the “ceremony” being a local success, the awards were hosted again the next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. After CNN covered the 4th Razzie Awards, John decided to schedule the awards the night before the Oscars to get more coverage, and the Razzies officially became an annual thing.
Results
Hosted the day before the Academy Awards, this ceremony had 9 categories, and also featured the “Redeemer” award, which would be given to a former Razzie nominee who found success later on. For “Worst Picture,” a total of 6 movies were nominated, due to an abundance of bad movies in 2016. The winners will be listed in bold. Here are the results right here!
Worst Picture:
- Hillary’s America: The Secret of the Democratic Party (A factually inaccurate anti-Democrat documentary)
- Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice
- Gods of Egypt
- Dirty Grandpa (Not to be confused with “Bad Grandpa”, a film made by the crew of Jackass)
- Independence Day: Resurgence
- Zoolander 2
